Poo- a topic that should be discussed more

How many people die as a result from undigested fecal matter in their colon would be difficult to find out. But I can only assume that number is high

Elvis Presley died on the toilet. It is suspected that he died of a heart attack while straining to defecate due to severe constipation. It is said that he had not been able to poo for more than two weeks due to side effects of medication.

If there is one health topic, that I believe is least talked about, but actually should be a major topic of conversation, its pooing. GET IT OUT, every day I say!

At the time of writing, Bowel Cancer is the second biggest cause of death in Australia. And we have to consider why.

Not only are the majority of people, not eating enough fruits and vegetables. They are also eating processed foods on a daily basis, that is literally poisoning them from the inside out.

But what’s not well understood, and I am here to educate you on; is the role of the Colon.

The Colon is the last part of the digestive system. By the time food passing through here, all nutrients has been absorbed (that was done int he small intestines). The role of the Colon is to absorb Water and electrolytes.

Now stop and think about that for a moment. If you had a small mass of food waste and as it passed through a tube, it was constantly being drained of its water content. what would it be like at the end if no more water was added? It would be a hard immoveable mass that would be hard to pass, right?

That is exactly what happens. If we aren’t drinking enough filtered (non-fluorinated) water nor having enough fibrous juicy fruits and vegetables everything is going to get clogged up.

In addition, the way we sit on the toilet in western society does not allow the bowel to relax and for the fecal matter to empty properly. We are meant to be in a squat like position for easy transition.

Having a poo-stool (also known as a footstool) set up could be one of the best pieces of equipment you invest in, for your health. I’ve teamed up with FootStool | Underrated Enterpris (underratedenterprises.com.au). When you use the code “sustainablehealth” customers receive 10% off their purchase of their footstool.

Lets look more closely at the squatting position and the position of the body.

As mentioned, the colon holds body wastes until the time of elimination. Our flexible colons have one inlet valve from the small intestine (the ileocaecal valve) and one outlet valve (the anal canal). When the anal canal opens, gravity and muscular peristaltic waves help move body wastes from the body. Now, if a container requires internal pressure (peristalsis) to empty it, it is necessary for the inlet valve to close when the outlet valve opens. The indications are that both these valves function as they should only when we squat. Think carefully about this – your decision to eliminate with a daily squat could prolong your life and, more importantly, will improve your quality of life. (reference www.mypage.tsn.cc).
